is the original portable water purifier combining solar electric power generation with a process called ionization. Water purification by ionization has been practised for thousands of years. By storing water in copper and silver containers ancient Romans kept their water fresh and clear and free from algae and bacteria. However don´t start placing copper and silver pieces just yet into your pool as it would take a very long time to attain a concentration of ions which would be effective in cleaning the water.
The concept of ionizing was used by NASA for use abroard moonbound Apollo spaceraft, to obtain bacteria free, pure drinking water. Microscopic life forms cannot co-exist with the ions.
When the floats on the water, a safe low voltage, electricity supplied by the solar panels, is applied to the silver/copper electrodes. The silver ions disrupt the enzyme balance of bacteria and virus, while the copper ions disrupt the enzyme balance of algae.
1. What is wrong with chlorine?
Chlorine, although it can be effective, evaporates out of the water very quickly and requires a constan replenishment to maintain a protective concentration. During hot weather you cannot leave your pool alone for more than a week.
Chlorine requires constant monitoring and handling.
Further more chlorine is a suspected cacinogen and has been determined by the American Public Healt Association as "to pose public health risks involved in the work place, consumer products and the general enviroment". Of course chlorinealso causes, especially in children, nose, throat and ear problems. In addition it bleaches and colours hair, towels and furniture. Last but not least chlorine is quite expensive and it damages pool equipment and piping.
on the other hand is safe for the enviroment, clear and pays for itself over and over again for as long as you have your swimming pool.

2. How long does alast?

The in technically superior to any other ionizer in the world, all of which generate large amounts of mineral ions in a short period of time. Not only are those expensive units overpowered and bulky, they also require professional installation and servicing. Additionally, complex electronic controllers can add to their unrealibility and cost. As ionizers reduce chlorine and chemical sales, if an ionizer is recommended at all, it usually is a very costly system that requires a service contract to operate.

No other chemicals are needed and your pool will not need to be "shocked." No extra chemicals to close your pool, either. The works best with trace chlorine only. The pH becomes very stable also.

On May 3, 1992 The Florida Solar Energy Center at Cape Canaveral, Florida USA, began the evaluation of the Floatron. The report said:
